Leather, tobacco, blackberries, and white pepper make up the nose of the wine. Lots of tannins on the mouth. Needs a healthy lead time decanting before serving. It is surprising the wine is not more mellow, given the '05 vintage. It will be interesting to see how my two remaining bottles fare with a few more years in the cellar.
Wine was very full bodied and ready to be drunk. Full bodied and chewy. Could have blind tasted as a Cabernet. We enjoyed it with a steak dinner and it was very much up to the strong steak flavors. Wonderful wine.
Probably past its prime. My recollection is the 2005 was not a favorite early and have to say it didn't improve with age. The wine was nondescript and may have been fine as table wine with food. My first thought was that it was better than water but not much. No reason to keep this around.
