  Attractive aromas of walnuts and toffee. Up front are mineral flavors of lemon and lime. Caramel dominates the lingering finish. In the wrong hands, this could have been a disaster but it is a well made, balanced wine. The oak is under control and enhances rather than dominates. Firm acids, with sugars firmly held in check, hold everything together. And there's none of that tropical fruit crap that has become accepted as the norm in Chardonnay. This does deviate somewhat from the classic profile of a Macon-Villages, as it lacks some of the buttery, round elements that are associated with that style. This is more sharp and angular, but is none the worse for it.
