Citrus and dark berries on the nose with cinnamon spice, blood and meat. Palate was vibrant and powerful with alluring sweet fruit. A very composed wine that subtlely speaks about the wine-making technique and terroir.

Méo-Camuzet NSG Boudots (mostly) Dinner with Jean-Nicolas Méo (Sepia - Chicago IL): Powerful red fruit throughout, with slightly less spice than some of the other great vintages tasted tonight. Great length, weight and balance. I bought this bottle in 2003 from somebody who had bought it at release, so great provenance and storage here.

Explosive cherry driven nose with a good deal of cinnamon spice. Only traces of damp soil in the background with some minerality. Powerful and focused black cherry and black currant fruit on the palate with some unresolved oak hanging around. Big and spicy showing only hints of promising secondary development. Would have guessed '99 to '01 Vosne, not NSG. None of the acid problems often associated with '96 either. A real crowd pleaser.

One of five aged Burgundies at our monthly wine group dinner. This was my least favorite. I thought that tonight’s bottle was either completely closed down or past its prime. There was very little fruit, depth or complexity on the palate in my opinion. While others did not necessarily agree, a few felt that after their initial sip the wine seemed to shut down. As far as I am concerned it is not worth the hefty price tag this will cost you.

Second La Paulee Warmup Dinner (Corton - New York NY): Stewy, certainly flawed, seemingly heat damaged.
