  • Tighter than past. Fruit fading? Still great with food.

  • Medium depth. Begins very brambly before showing a whiff of flowers and some green. The vintage is most obvious in the relative heft of the wine by Chambolle standards, but the high acidity and briery black fruit would not make me guess 2009. Clearly needs time to pull together, but I wonder if it will always lack charm and finesse. Not exactly what I expected nor as good as I had hoped. Every time I taste a village Chambolle that is not quite up to par, I think back to the ethereal 2002 Mugnier, whose delicacy and wafting aromas continue to be my pacesetter in this category.

A night in the recorked bottle has taken this in a more fragrant direction with a more pleasingly airy feel to it. Tart cranberry acidity is still going strong.

  • PnP This is btl #1 of 3 and starts out a little austere, almost bitter. I'd guess this is closing down. But, then about 30 minutes in it starts to flesh out and take on the village traits of silk, red fruit and spice. I like the potential but I won't touch the other 2 for at least 3yrs.

  • Delicious. No rush. Shut down but opened up a bit later. Great sour fruit

  • A good looking yearling in the parade ring. Good start out of the gate with a good core of dark smoky fruit in the middle but she starts to flag a couple of furlongs before the finish. Typically round and plush for the vintage but I can't see this filly will ever cross the line anywhere other than in the middle of the field. But you never know. Perhaps another year/eighteen months in training and she may pull something out of the bag.
