  • Medium color - ruby to garnet. Medium intensity nose of redcurrant, red cherry, some hints of white pepper and wet stones. A little bit of vanilla and clove towards the end. Pallete is medium minus across tannin, acidity, flavor intensity. A bit more alcohol than your average burgundy, with a decent but still pinot-esq body. An almost imperceptible Hint of Bret on the palette holds it back. I wonder if this may get better with even more time. Or it will fall away. Not sure. Overall a good base burg, but at the price there is much better more interesting Pinot from other parts of the world. Is tricky now finding vaguely affordable burg that makes the grade. I have concluded you have to go up a notch from here in price to make it stand out. At this level - in the $40-$50 range - you don’t have a chance of beating a top of the range Oz or NZ at this price. For Burg I now conclude you have to step up to the $100 1er Cru to access something that is really different and special compared to al the other Pinot regions in the world.

  • Pale to medium purple in color. Big legs, confirmed by quite strong alcohol on the nose. Eventually some fruit came through - light plum - and then a touch of sweet tobacco in the background. Mouth feel still some acidity to start, and a bit of tannin. Not nearly as much tannin as 2 years ago, but still here. Overall robust but still rough around the edges. Not sure it will ever smooth out, but certainly seems like it has a long life ahead. But as before not convinced it will change much.

  • I find pavelot too Tanic and rough so far. Even after 10 years in bottle this has an acidic sharp element to the pallet. Nose is decent, and fruit is nice, but mouth feel is still too sharp for me. I am hoping more time might soften it and round it out. But I am not sure it will. We will see.

  • Spicy sweet red berries with a hint of anise and forest floor. Ripeness is there but still well balanced.
