A Ridge Tahoe Weekend; 6/29/2023-7/2/2023 (Edgewood Resort): I think if I were going to like Chardonnay then the Ridge Monte Bello would be in my sweet spot. It always reminds me a bit of honey and honeysuckle and a nice lightness and sweetness in style. Very fresh. There is something that is just a bit too ‘chard’ in it and so I didn’t drink the full glass of it, but fun to check in.

Old Napa Wines Dinner (Joseph's Place, Wong Chung Hang, Hong Kong): Drank blind. Light green-yellow colour....looks young. Nose is lifted, richer and heavier than the colour would suggest.....touches of a young Meursault 1er Cru except we know we are in California with tonight's wines. Palate is rich but with a super honeyed but lemony harmony. Light but surprisingly resonant on the finish. Beautiful, but go a bit richer and thicker in a slightly monotone way with extended time in the glass. I think this needs more cellaring... certainly judging by the 1985 Ch. Montelena Alexander Valley Chardonnay we drank blind alongside it.

Somewhat smelly cork; medium yellow; corked nose; broad, buttery and fat, deep taste - would have been excellent without the cork, but lingering corky aftertaste; poured into the sink

Deep straw color. Pear and apricot fruit flavors with some honeysuckle and white flowers. Beautiful mouthfeel. Starting to show some early signs of oxidation, but really outstanding now. If you have more, I don't think I would wait a lot longer to drink this, and you certainly won't be disappointed now.

Another Year, Another Napa (aka Winter in Wineland IV); 1/5/2020-1/11/2020 (Napa/Sonoma California): This wine pleasantly surprised me. It's aged quite well and is more in that honey style which I actually find enjoyable. At the same time good acid and crispness. Very fresh and going strong.
