  • Wine 3 and how fresh is this coming out of the bottle! Immediate: DECANT!

With air gained good complexity, tannins are silky, olives, reserved fruit and bacon after taste. The wine was brilliant with a steak!

This can live forever it feels… probably now - 2050

  • Blind, decanted 3 hours......old garnet in the glass. Admittedly, I am not a Rhone guy.......

Nose of old prune and dust/dirt.

Palate similar. It just came across as old muddied plum/prune fruit. Maybe the 3 hours of air hurt it? Maybe it's an off bottle? Some at the table with more Rhone experience than me said it was a troublesome/difficult vintage.

  • How can you put points on a masterpiece?? In this situation it denigrates from the integrity of the wine.

True work of art and a masterful display of elegance, balance, acidity and complexity. Everything I personally look for in a wine. Gorgeous. So unique.

HOWEVER it needs 4-5 hr decant. After 1-2 hr decant it was really good but after 4 is when the fireworks started. I feel sorry for the others for not giving this wine the respect it deserves via a pop and pour or 1 hr decant.

At peak and will stay here for years.

  • The last time I had this wine was almost exactly five years ago. At that time, I suggested that it would be even better with 5-10 years of age and that prediction has come true. Decanted for an hour before consuming at Boulevard in San Francisco with an incredible lamb chop. There is a superb floral component on the nose and the typical Guigal complexity and length. Squarely in the drinking window and there should be no hurry to consume these if you are lucky enough to still have any.
