  • Mature, earthy, dill and mushrooms. Medium bodied, fresh, dried red berries, leather. Still good but not getting any better, drink up!

  • From Coravin; nose is initially a bit funky and earthy and reduced but after that blows off there is only a slight black pepper and fennel seed note. Palate is definitely still alive with nice acidity and bright red and blue fruits, more of that fennel seed and completely resolved tannins. Reminds me more of a Cote Rotie than a Hermitage but it still has good balance and is in a fantastic place right now. Not sure it’s going to get any better from here though so drink up, ideally with a short rib beef stew.

  • Mid ruby-garnet with broad garnet rim. Bright and healthy but mature looking. Opens quietly, with an almost dumb nose. A little quiet on the palate too, but with a decent length meaty finish. After an hour or so this really begins to build, gaining weight and a little power as it opens.

The fully developed bouquet has a major top note of roses and dark flowers. At the bottom of the glass this is insistently meaty, with roast beef and fresh charcuterie. On the palate, rounded and quite broad rather than deep, just about sufficient acidity, never more than medium bodied, but generally reflecting the bouquet, floral and perhaps vaguely fruity leading into a meaty and occasionally smokey finish. The texture quietly plays its part with a nice silkiness on the front and with some unobtrusive but vaguely granular tannin towards the back.

This is undoubtedly fully mature, but there doesn't seem to be any rush at this point. Another five years for sure, but given that this is the first of my three I don't know how long this has been in this state to be more confident about its future. Incidentally the cork was relatively soft, of no great length and doesn't give much cause for certainty in the long run. Given that it's obviously mature I'm happy to drink at this point given that there is no apparent upside and the dubious quality of cork.

  • Garnet. Nose of caramel, blackberry, Chinese spice, black pepper. The palate is super soft and elegant with lovely blackcurrant and black cherry fruit with a little spice and ground black pepper on the finish. This is beginning to decline into old age but still drinking well now.

  • Gourmetklubbens trettioförsta middag (A+N, Sundbyberg): Green olives, white pepper and herbs. Softening tannins with lots of fruit show for a long life ahead.
