  • Drank at my 30th birthday (Yes, I'm from 1994 aswell)

Expected great things, but lacking a bit of structure and complexity. (Bought at an auction, so storage might be suboptimal)

  • Drank at 67
    Rich and smooth, a delight

  • Red and black fruits, leather, walnuts, soil tones, some spices, and unsweetened chocolate on the nose. Palate had a balanced roundness to it with tannins starting to integrate. "Balance" was the name of the game here, as fruit, savory, and sweetness all kept each other in check. I wonder if this becomes even more expansive in the mouth and on the finish as it ages. I suspect it has a long way yet to go.

  • Decanted for about 4 hours and had one glass per hour over the next three hours. Cork was in flawless shape and barely saturated, some mold on the outside but that is to be expected.

The nose was menthol, leather, marzipan and black fruit. This was never fruit forward but as we got more into it the menthol took over and it became earthier.

Mouth was Christmas spices (could be the season lots of cinnamon and nuts), bees wax, fruit and pound cake. The finish was similar but very long lasting. I know this can age longer but this is drinking very well.

  • A "Burgundian" Dinner (Chez Nick): Tremendous upon being decanted (around six hours before it was eventually consumed), with a big, booming nose and an incredible berry-stained finish. Oddly the airtime seemed to reduce the wine's impact rather than promoting still more expressiveness, and the wine was merely very good in the final analysis. Fruitcake, ash and smoke, rather spicy, somehow very approachable despite still feeling pretty young. I expected this to be my favourite from my mixed six-pack of 1994 VP, but so far it's maybe the least exciting (Graham, Vesuvio, Noval, Dow so far, Fonseca remaining to try over Christmas). I'll probably pick up another bottle to be sure, though!

(Taylor Fladgate Vintage Port) #1; COLOR-medium; NOSE-quite tight; more floral (really nice violets and rosemary) than the standard brandy-esque aspects; PALATE-still VERY young -- the really firm tannins are ripping through my palate on the back-end; just a big wine; tastes like I took a big bite of a big piece of bitter dark chocolate; really focused bottle of port; big and viscous; great viscosity and mouthfeel; I also like the really sour cherry flavor; reminds me of a Russian cherry dessert; this is very good and will age extremely well; look for this to last 40-60 years; has big potential; very well made; it's expensive, but it's spectacular; RP-96; WS-100; GV-94

(Taylor (Fladgate) Porto Vintage) Dark red violet color; lovely, deep, ripe berry, boysenberry and blueberry nose; tasty, great rounded and deep berry palate, young yet but deep and ripe; long finish
