  • This does seem a bit behind from where you'd expect it to be in the ageing process. Lots of lime, bits of presevered lemon, that classic custardy/cheesy thing on the back palate, with a good dose of gunflint and white pepper. There is a decent finish on this and no shortage of acidity, but it's lacking a lift I typically find on HVS. Very nice, but somewhat disappointed, particularly given the price. No nutty notes here, nor even any riper tropical elements. These either need a lot more time, or they've just entered some kind of stasis.

  • Silky texture and still a very fresh palate. No notes of any trailing off. Lime fruit to the palate. Nice acidity. Was there any oak on this in it's youth? Has a little Cherrios note on the finish.

  • 11,6% alcohol.

Luminous, medium-deep lime green color. Somewhat restrained and quite developed nose with aromas of stone dust, woolly lanolin tones, some aged waxy character, a little bit of chalky minerality, light wizened apple tones and a perfumed hint of white flowers. Overall there is surprisingly little fruit left to the nose. The wine is medium-bodied, very lively and quite textural on the palate with focused, complex and quite racy flavors of steely minerality, tart key lime-driven citrus fruit tones, chalk dust, some lemony citrus fruit, light apple peel bitterness, a little bit of woolly lanolin, a hint of wet stones and a touch of dusty aged character. The bracing acidity lends remarkable sense of structure and intensity to the wine. The finish is crisp, very long and surprisingly youthful with intense flavors of tart lemony citrus fruits, tangy green apples, some pithy grapefruity tones, a little bit of woolly lanolin, light old furniture tones and a hint of wizened apples.

Unlike many older Hunter Valley Sémillons, this wine shows surpriisngly little of those toasty and nutty tones these wines develop with age. Overall the wine is still surpriisngly youthful and quite lean, but it shows some developed characteristics, as the fruit flavors seem a bit toned-down and have a slightly wizened overall feel to them. Furthermore, it feels as though some dusty and woolly tones have replaced the fruitier characteristics as the wine has aged. I'm not entirely sure if the wine is still very youthful, or if it is aging on an atypical trajectory compared to a typical HVS. A wonderfully racy and distinctive wine, but not as impressive as the Museum Reserve 2006 that was tasted alongside.

  • Lime. Lime. Lime.

As the taster below said in 2013, this is still a baby. There is still so much acid here that it has the legs to go a lot further. I'd even try 2018 or 2020. I think the screw cap is definitely slowing it down.

His flavour notes below are on point, and perhaps I consumed it when it was too cold. More of the brioche, melon, honey and lovely fruit comes through when the bottle is a little warmer and has breathed for an hour or so.

Overall a great quality wine. I paid $72 AUD for it, which is a bit steep in my opinion. I would only pay maybe $50-$60 AUD for this world class Hunter Valley Semillon.

  • Green to straw- yellow in the glass.
Aromas of fresh Citrus, Lime with some pineapple. Hints of Honey with Floral notes. Traces of Sulfur.
Taste of a lot of fresh Fruits, like Lemon, Lime, some Grapefruit and Honeydew Melon. Beautiful acidity. Finishes medium-long with Toasty and Honey characters.
A typical and great Hunter Valley Semillon. Still very fresh and young!
The screwcap closure is definitely slowing the aging process.
This wine still has many years down the road.
