Still drinking really well, although passed its peak. This is “tertiary land” (still balanced by good acidity) and i like that. Opens up nicely with a bit of air and stays nice for 2 hours. Dead on second day with cooked fruits compote. Drink up!

Light cranberry color, slightly cloudy. The nose starts out with a bright trumpet blast of tart cherry, followed by garrigue, rosemary and braised meats, with a final spearmint tang. The palate is principally sour fruit with a peppery coating, and a dry limestone finish. Mature, though with sufficient tannic structure to support perhaps another 5 years of optimal drinking. Still, no reason to wait too long, as this is showing wonderfully right now.

Lovely older Syrah, with great tart acidic structure buffered by earthy brambly fruit. It broadened out well with air, and is drinking very well.

Cyrano's Bistro/Sam's Wine & Spirits Cassoulet Dinner (Cyrano's Bistro, Chicago): This was the top wine tasted. Lots of layers of spice, hugely complex. Bacon in the finish. A really delicious wine.
