  Very disappointing bottle, perhaps more advanced than my others, and showing more secondary characteristics . Wood spice and kirsch on the nose. Plum and vanilla/oak on the palate. Still plenty of tannin and good amount of acid, but just nothing exciting or interesting here. It isn't "young" or "shut down" - just uninteresting.

  Belated celebrations: Time has finally tamed the beast--a little. Deep ruby. Sweet cherry, tart red fruit, lots of wood spice, herb. Silky, lighter body. Medium acid and very plentiful tannin, but the tannins are actually approachable now with some air. Quite enjoyable.

  Not as brutally tannic and primary as the bottle I had about a year ago, though this was opened a few hours in advance, which may have helped. There's bright plum and red berried fruit at the core with tinges of earth and that oaky Draper perfume, but there's also a faint high toned varnishy/VA like note on the nose that remains in the background and doesn't detract. It's still very primary with a lot of youthful intensity to the fruit and a fair bit of tannin lingering, but it's quite enjoyable and nowhere near as forbidding as my last experience.

This is absurdly young with a core of very fresh dark fruited flavours tinged with oak spice and earth, and a fair amount of tannin on the back end. The balance is excellent though, but I wonder just how long this really needs before the structure integrates and the flavours start to develop into something more mature and savoury.
