Dinner with Friends (Oswego): Opened by our hosts. Light color with a noticeable greenish tint. Aromas of vanilla, nutmeg, butterscotch and apple with strong toasted oak overtones that work well here. Full-bodied, showing flavors of butterscotch, lemon drop candy and toasted oak. Could use a year or two to integrate the oak a bit. 88-90 pts, depending on your preference.
I was told this a big and complex Chardonnay that would stand up to the big boys like Peter Michael. Having never had a Peter Michael I have no idea if it's true but this blows away almost every $25-30 Chardonnay I've ever had. The nose explodes with bright citrus and tropical fruits with a hint of fresh grass. In the mouth lemon cream pie comes through with a pineapple undertone and of course a touch of buttery popcorn. Finishes crisp and long.
At $45 it's kinda steep for a Chardonay but for those who like this profile it may be worth the pursuit. Remember you don't drink the label.
