  • Decanted 30 minutes beforehand. Leather, green pepper, red fruit (instead of plum) this time, and a bit of earth. Red fruit (red currant?), but savory palate. Long finish. Refined aristocrat. Got better through the dinner. Paired with steak, sweet potatoes, and broccolini—and chocolate truffles. Not quite as richly vibrant as the ‘92, compared alongside.

  • One hour slo-o. The wine is at the top of its game. Earthy bouquet with a touch of funk. The palate is pure velvet with great depth, focus and finesse and finishes with considerable length. A wine with soul!

  • Fresh potato skins, cigarettes, ripe currant, tart currant, perfumey spice. There's still plenty of ripe, livey, round fruit here and it's very worth drinking, now and for 5+ years yet I would think, though there's still a lot of tannin, too, and the fruit gets tired after about an hour.

  • Consistent with last year's note. Decanted half an hour ahead of dinner. Leather, plums, earth with the slightest hint of green pepper on the nose. Plums and leather stayed through the palate, which seemed amazingly fresh, but the green pepper had faded after an hour or so. Long finish. Once again, paired with duck breast, this time with plum compote. Nice.

  • Wow, this still feels young and curiously this wine was much better on the second night after a sleepover in the fridge. Classic, cab franc flavors, green and mushy, complex. Great acidity and freshness. Worth the $68 tab.
