Bitter strawberry, some herbal tea character, some bottle stink, quite dry, with a touch of secondary fermentation? Unusual and past prime, still has that intrigue that old Ridge wines cling to. Worth tasting, if not a great wine.

I don't know how Paul Draper zins manage to live for 35 years and age so gracefully. It is a beautiful, haunting aroma of decayed leaves, mushrooms and undergrowth. My sommelier friend took it for a mature northern Rhone! Incredibly complex and velvety, with a long and balanced finish. Great wine, probably my last bottle forever, such a rare gem!
