Medium garnet to brick red colour. An intense nose of poached raspberry, red currant and orange with underlying sous-bois. In the mouth a succulent texture, dense, with sweet fruit and dusty tannins. Very good length. I’d say this is now ‘à point’. Still requires a bit of air to unfold. An excellent Volnay that has become more classic than in its youth.

P/P: clean soft mulberry, cola and some black tea; a bit rounder than i prefer; day two a bit leaner with some primary grapey notes, but some good structure shines through

Pale orange ruby red. Beautiful nose of bright red morello cherries, cranberries, spices, potpourri and forest floor. Silky palate shows bright sweet-sour red berries, good acidity, soil tones and a long perfumed finish.

Showing much better than Caillerets last week, this is bright and focused and red fruited, still structured, but this has turned the corner towards maturity. Will be good in a few more years. Note for next time: this showed a subtle but distinct mustiness for the first 2 hours that I associate with low-level TCA, which then dissipated, but the wine then went into a shell, reinforcing my hunch. Took a few more hours to open back up, without any sign of TCA. Need to factor that in next time I open one of these.

Rather ripe and concentrated but also some mild oxidation
