Rich cherry with sweet tobacco and touch of smoke. Needed about an hour to open up and continued to get better so don't judge it too early. Moderate tannin and balanced acidity.

Had one bottle which seemed spent. Writing up a review on this one -a hefty, inky Syrah-everything you expect. Can't say it was over the top, think we paid about 15 or 16 for it, which was neither too much and not a bargain. Not worth $20 or above as it does not have the depth or finish of a top drawer Syrah. For Santa Barbara area would prefer Fess Parker's Syrah for $20-25 price range. Drink now, no aging potential.

Blind Tasting - New World Syrah and Red Blends; 1/17/2013-1/23/2013 (Woodley Park - Washington, DC): SRP: $25. Complex, fruit-forward aromas of figs, raspberries and even a hint of passion fruit. Full and grippy on the palate with refreshing acid and gritty, young tannins. The wild raspberry and fig paste flavors mix well with the earth and cedar notes. This seems quite solid, well-structured and deserving of some time to evolve.

Slight spice and a hint of nutmeg from the glass to the finish.

Quite nice, and very balanced for being so young. The kind of CA Syrah we can enjoy, with the red fruit balanced by the acidity. With ken and Sylvina.
