Heitz can be one of the best values in aged cab if you can find it. Bright, ripe cherry and vanilla, slightly stewed red fruit, lovely acidity, integrated tannins. Drinking beautifully.

Gift from Duje. Bottle from a family cellar. This was clearly past prime but in better shape than expected for an '02. It still had decent fruit and acidity, as well as some remaining tannic structure. And it was pleasant to drink with food but a bit out of balance and just a touch dried out and tired. Given that the CT window ended in 2013, this was a good showing. But these should be drunk soon if you have them. I've had a few bottles of the '02 Trailside in the past few years, and the Trailside still had a lot more left (but those were also purchased directly from the winery before the Heitz family sold out and the new owners have jacked up prices and gone for a profit grab; sad what has happened to what was one of my favorite Napa wineries and one that didn't just cater to rich people)

Solid mature CA cab. Surprised by fine grained tannins. Very enjoyable with grilled steaks, Maitre d’hotel butter, fries and salad.

Well integrated by this point - still slightly hot. Pretty nice, but generally unremarkable. No formal notes.
