Bright ruby red. Aromas of the forrest floor, wild mushrooms and redcurrants. Very smooth and silky on the palate, with a good amount of body, providing cherries and soft red fruit backed up by a hint of cinammon then morello cherries on the long clean finish.
Light in color with a light/medium body. Pleasantly fruity on taste with some oak clearly present. Finished short, but nice. I'd say this wine has reached the time to drink. For the price it was worth it.
Seriously doubt I would have rated this a 89 one year ago or two years ago. A bit of aging has done this wine wonders (it has seen oak). It's a little darker than some, reflecting that it is more medium-bodied with a good deal of finesse--not a lighter style--with red cherry and earthen notes. Very fun wine to drink NOW, but enough balance to pair with a variety of foods. This Rodney Strong Pinot from RRV is always a good performer for the price, but it needs three years from vintage year to get to the sweet spot...no long-term aging potential seen...
