  • This was showing a lot of oak tonight. Notes of spice and currant and overwhelming oak. The acidity seemed high, tannins a bit low, fruit low, and oak too high. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling this bottle either.

  • This has a deep purple color. Currant, black licorice, and a strawberry jam on the nose. It was very silky on the palate. Had a nice conversation with a much more experienced wine-o about the balance between the fruitiness and the tannins. I personally felt it was too fruity and jammy without enough tannins to be truly balanced at this point. It has a nice, medium, spicy finish.

  • On the nose, black licorice, anise and currant. Pretty darn concentrated, especially given the vintage, with a little bit of red fruit lurking (I think TBone said strawberry, I will not disagree). Just before the finish, I caught a bit of a green note, not as noticeable as many other wines in this vintage but it was there, leading into a medium finish but with drying tannins. I would not describe them as overwhelming by any means, just drying. I felt like I needed a sip of water after each taste of the wine, and usually I succumbed.

I do think this was the most controversial wine of the night. While not a bad wine, the green/herbal notes and drying tannins detracted from my enjoyment. I did not find this wine jammy (unlike TBone), but it was still my least favorite of the night.
