the fruit is definitely mostly or all gone, but this was still a nice, refreshing syrah that was worth trying given its age. I followed this up by a 2005 Novy SLH which was much livelier, but given the age I think it still a nice bbq wine. Drink em if you go em!!!

The cork on this was falling apart as I tried to remove it, and it ended up having to be pushed down into the bottle, unfortunately. However, the nose of this wine is absolutely explosive, offering up some significant stink. Fruit is minimal, and a raw meatiness with fresh-cracked pepper really comes through. There's an interesting fresh mintiness that caps it off.
On the palate, this wine is just a goner. It's thin and watery, with only the meatiness and pepper coming through.
No rating given, as this bottle was clearly a lost cause.

Dense overripe fruit with high toned note-not exactly varnish but not exactly fruit. Enjoyable and complex but just a little weird. Full bodied and lush in the mouth with smoke earth and no sense of age. Lush finins with some unresolved tannin. Nice, ripe, enjoyable but just shy of outstanding

Exotic note of black fruits, grapefruit, smokey meat and earth. Lush palate with less of grainy tannins than 2 years ago and still with only light acid. Still a very nicely balanced wine.

(Novy Family Wines Syrah Santa Lucia Highlands) Group's #2 (my #6) – 49 pts; 2, 3, 3, 0 – thyme, marjoram, basil and pepper nose; hot, dense, savory black fruit with herbs; medium finish 86+ pts. (needs time, but the alcohol will probably outlive the fruit)
