It's always nice to have a birth year wine even with hit and miss of the 1999 vintage. Unfortunately this Guigal Hermitage is basically gone. Not in any sense that it's all tertiary, instead its simply limp and watery. What was left was good. I don't think a point rating is fair given its state but I would like to try some of the "La La" wines to assess their shape.

Deep red, almost no bricking, nose very primary out of the gate, pure fruit on the palate, plenty tannic and long. Opened up pretty quickly in the decanter, a little meatiness. Pretty good, but a bit simple for what it is.

#3 of 6. Really enjoyed the 85 Cote Rotie Brune et Blonde earlier this month and figured why not try one of these. Decanted at 3:00 enjoyed with a rack of lamb at 7:30. Bright deep ruby core, nice nose with dark fruits, spice and hints of tar and meats. Mid weight, balanced with good texture and density. Clearly an early maturity profile, plenty of stuffing for next 10 years. Great PQR

Decanted hr. Really a delight to drink this last night, and in full bloom. The main attraction weaves together a triple play of gentle blackberry fruit, strong floral components, and savory black pepper, with nothing standing out - blending together just right. In short, this is one of the better negotiant reds I can recall from Guigal and this is right at full maturity. Lovely.
