  • Rioja Montecillo in Magum Tasting (Bodega Santa Cecilia - Madrid): From double-magnum.
100% Tempranillo (no gernache, really?) Made with all its skins and sleeping in American oak for 48 months.
Initially signs of oxidation that take a long time to dissipate. Something sour. It takes a little time to express itself, starting with moisture and varnish. The meat thing you look does not appear, if anything some marzipan, chocolate and wet soil. Memories from saline notes. Meanwhile some still looked for more meat odors instead of leather, dried apricots and spices. Everything with a softness more typical of old age than elegance.
Almost sour in the mouth, with a slightly astringent finish. Refreshes but without more. Neither depth nor amplitude nor length.
It has met my expectations and is saved by its performance on the nose.

Recuerdos lejanos a notas salinas.

  • Blackberry, oak, spices. Well balanced with some fine tannins left. Wonderfully complex.

  • In Vino Veritas Session 4 (MIT): Some real cider, tons of oak, some blackberry, but not much fruit left - mostly tertiary flavors at this point. Still quite some tannin left, but sadly this doesn't have a whole lot left to offer. Delicious but dying. I would like to try a bottle of this with 20 years on it rather than 40. 12.5%, bought for $45 in 1982 and laid down until today. (24 views)
