Retronasal confitado, licoroso.

  • Exciting, fresh and youthful. It has a salty flor tang and is underpinned by wonderful clean fruit. Delicious.

Very well developed, cheesy almost, but with a lovely ripeness and delicacy to the fruit and a searing acidity that keeps everything nicely balanced and makes it feel young (courtesy Ruth Ford).

  • yellow gold, oxidative and more of a light to medium expression of similar notes to the 91`; 85% Viura, 15% Malavasia.

  • Drinking in Rioja; 5/8/2013-5/14/2013 (Rioja, various bars and restaurants): Mid straw in colour. Quite fresh, some minerality, lanolin and mellow bees wax nose. Fresher and cleaner than the GR, this is a further step up on a half of this at Gidleigh a couple of years back. Smooth with a depth and mellowness that is deceptively easy and yet a building complexity than continues to develop through the evening. Not the richness of a recent 81 GR, but close on its heals for complexity, depth and interest. ****

  • Two evenings at Gidleigh Park; 4/26/2011-4/27/2011 (Gidleigh Park): Half bottle. Mid gold in colour. A touch volatile on the nose initially but this blows off very quickly to reveal quite a mineral nose with suggestions of old furniture varnish and lanolin both of which follow through to the palate. Intense and mineral attack but all the complexity is up front with little development on the mid-palate and a lighter, less persistent finish. Good acidity. Quite clean and unoxidative for Tondonia and significantly fresher than the 87 GR tasted at the bodega in November. ***1/2

(Lopez de Heredia Rioja Reserva) #4; COLOR-medium golden; NOSE-funky; nutty; sherry-like; I like the citrus and nuttiness; kasha; this a dynamite nose; PALATE-a little light and subtle for $100 bones; but this is a style I enjoy; this makes me want to eat; this is bone dry; a slight hint of mustard; I really enjoy this; very interesting; this is an "occasion" wine; W&S-??; GV-93
