  • So, Garagiste did a big "amazing Falanghina" thing the other day, how wonderful they were, how well they age (well, the particular bottle he was pushing that day anyway.....), yada yada yada. So I decided to go back into the cellar and pull up an older bottling I had to see how it was faring. That it may have been the same bottle/producer only 7+ years later is only coincidence..... ;-)

So what can I say? Well, its all minerals, cream and florals. That's good. In fact it's aged nicely, its still fresh, full of life, flavors and paired well with our meal tonight. I bought this particular bottle at Chambers Street, but Garagiste and Chambers Street have been in the same sort of orbit for many many years and who knows, Garigiste may have offered it so many years ago but I missed it then.

Anyway, nice stuff, ages well, creamy stony fresh 11 years later. I ordered another bottle from Garagiste.....

  • Falanghina is such a great inexpensive white with unique flavors and aromas. This specific Falanghina is no exception. Lemon, acacia flowers, honey, minerals, almonds and a subtle saline element combine in an expansive display of complexity. The nose is highly aromatic, while the palate contrasts honeyed richness with fresh acidity. I believe there is at least partial malolactic here, although I must say that I prefer falanghina without any malolactic. This is still going strong 9 years after harvest and shows no sign of age.

  • agree with many of the other notes, this is a lovely wine with some weight, sea air, lemon, honey, pear and apricot. It has a finishing bitterness and weight like a white Rhone, but there is something Mediterranean about it like some Sicilian whites. Held up well over several hours and worked well with complex food - an Indian fish preparation and Mediterranean tomato -bread salad and roasted potatoes with olives. Excellent wine.

  • Beautiful golden hue: a lovely mature drink

  • Very nice, fuller bodied white. Bright canary in color, but not a touch of oxidation. A lovely alternative to chardonnay, with apple and lemon notes.
