  • Sunday hangout (socially distanced) (Chicago, IL): Palate much better than the nose here -- this is really dirty and funky though a lot of swirling seemed to get rid of the poopy aromas. On the palate, this is surprisingly sweet, but most of the flavour profile is dominated by the "old wine" taste. Interesting to try, but not really one I'd care to drink at this point.

  • Bottle may have been a touch off although just never know with these old Beaucastels. It's a bit older and some more musty style. Not quite bad, but just less fresh than one would like.

  • Medium-dark red color with medium transparency and limited thinning at the rim. Decanted off of moderate amount of sediment after standing in cellar for 40-ish hours. Aromas of earth, sweet tobacco, cherry, and thyme. Palate has meaty, earthy core with sweet tobacco leaf and cherry flavors accenting it. The finish is medium long. This hasn't changed much since first sampling per my memory of it. As with the first bottle, not an epiphany, but an excellent aged wine. Drink or hold.

  • Excellent...drinking really well.

  • Last bottle of a mixed Beaucastel lot procured at auction years ago.

Color: light ruby -> diffuse garnet rim. Bouquet: pale wine; pale nose. Not very expressive anymore: a little leather and a little garrigue. All tertiary aromas; not much in the way of fruit anymore. Palate was much more present than the nose; still medium bodied with saddle leather, sage, underbrush and minerals. Again, not really any fruit characteristics left, but considering the age, not surprising. Acidity spiking through with a fairly short finish. In decline but still quite drinkable. Rating is probably a little generous but I don't think any other CDP would show these legs after 40+ years!
