Community Tasting Notes (4) Median Score: 89 points

  • I'm gonna hit this a little bit on the score because it just didn't hold up well in the cellar. I probably should had this last one a few years ago.
In Appearance, the wine was clear, but a medium- garnet, that I may even call pale.
The Nose was developed, but with very little fruit left and all teriary qualities like dried leaved, earth, mushroom, and smoke, even a little tinge of burnt rubber there.
The Palate was dry with medium alcohol, but with very little in the way of tannin, acidity, or body. The wine was thin and slightly acetic. What fruit survived was red fruit, like raspberry, and again, there were some notes of smoke, earth, and mushroom.
Overall, a bit of a disappointment here, but it may be my own fault. It is past its prime for sure. I thought the reserve would have made it to this point.

  • Had with fresh linguine, meatballs and sweet sausage. A great medium bodied wine that opened up nicely over the course of a few hours. This has nice fruity flavor, mostly tasted cherry, and strong tannins to hold for another 3-5 years. But, definitely in a nice place....open and enjoy.

  • 13% Alcohol. Deep red color. Smells of earthy tanins, tobacco with some leather, tea and coffee. The finish was slightly spicy. Medum to full bodied wine

  • Bedell is an excellent winery and 2001 was a great year for Long Island. I tasted this at the winery and I was really impressed with the structure and layered fruit characteristics. Additionally, this is probably the best wine Bedell makes, so it should hold for a bit. I have a bottle that I'll drink in the near future to compare.
