Xmas day burg fest. Decanted for 6 hours. Ridiculous nose that had me floating off the floor. Somehow this will get even better with more time. This is a very, very special bottle.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Roaring nose of strawberry, rhubarb, orange zest, chocolate and spices. Exotic on the palate with oak, plush fruit, mocha, metal and strawberry. At times this was wide open, other times it was closed - it was hard to get a full read on it, but it would be in the 17-18/20 range.

Very expressive and intoxicating nose, with dense dark red and black fruits, bold spice, and a strong vanillin character. The oak isn't shy on the palate either but the ripe dark red fruit is plenty concentrated and beguiling as well. Together, it creates a very serious and impressive wine. A treat to taste, and very generous of Faiveley to pour this.

La Paulée de New York Grand Tasting (Metropolitan Pavilion - New York NY): Tasting, brief note. A personal highlight for today's tasting. Lots of black cherry and blackberry with good spice and a hint of braised meat. Comes across as ripe but restrained with everything in sensational balance. Very long and persistent. I am glad I tasted this early in the day because it's elegance can easily be lost in this 30+ producer marathon.

Nice stemmy aromatics with lift, quite enjoyable. Palate is somewhat overbearing, excessive sweetness for my taste. (00786)
