  • This had its moments, a truffled wine with graphite and clay. Smooth and aromatic. This is dry and lean especially on the finish, despite some structure. Lacks pizzazz but it was thoroughly pleasant dinner companion. Objectively, this is circa 92-pts, but it’s better than that.

  • 50 shades of Merlot (at home): Gabriel Gold. ~45min decant. Tasted blind.

Sadly corked. Excellent colour, immediately smelled the cork and that it was right bank Bdx from a tannic vintage (obviously 80ties). Everything was clear after tasting through the cork. Yeah, I can tell you right away the vintage and producer, but sadly this was corked. Noteworthy, this wine is from my point of point of view in good bottles the best right bank one in 1986, if where talking about QPR.

NB: More time in the decanter didn’t changed anything. But note, it was at no point past it’s prime. It was a corked on.

  • Darkish red, dense, browning edge. Nose is dominated by some cellar funk that doesn't go away. Also dark berries, tobacco, christmas cake, and quite a bit of green notes from the Cab Franc. Medium body w nice rounded tannins, good acidity, fruit drying up a bit (but still there with dark berries, liquorice). Balanced, medium-long aftertaste. We should have drunk this 3-5 yrs ago. It feels as if age has smoothened the wine too much, something is missing.

  • Excellent bottle, nose was evolved but remained dominated by a healthy fruit profile, there was a distinct vegetal (eucalyptus) note which gave a lot of distinction and quality to the nose. Palate was all about weight, smoothness and silkiness, the classic velvet glove surrounding considerable amounts of tannins. Length was also excellent. Confirms my feeling that 1986 was great in Pomerol.

  • This one was a big surprise for me as the last of the '86 bdx reds tasted tonight. I love the big dose of cab franc here which gives it some of those green herbal notes which I really enjoy. This was in a sweet spot, with fruit, herbs, and leather all coming together. Actually preferred this to a few of the first growths.
