Community Tasting Notes (4) Median Score: 91 points

  • Opened and decanted for a couple of hours prior to service after which, it was enjoyed over a few hours. No formal notes. This bottle of 2000 Giovanni Rosso Barolo “Cerretta” currently pours a deep garnet color with a mostly transparent core. There is some sediment present but we were able to decant most of it off. This is a vinous wine displaying dried red fruits, leather, tar, mushrooms and spices. The structure is still firm but the tannins are fairly integrated at this point. The attack is perceptively sweet and the finish is long and satisfying; perhaps a touch hot. This is drinking well right now and well stored examples should hold through 2030.

  • A high strung, bit alcoholic, volatile barolo. Soaring intoxicating aromatics of integrated charred oak, caramel, steeped tea. The fruit is not as concentrated and sweet as an '01 barolo (sorry James), but shows a running sweetness vein amidst a backbone of Serralunga grit. Drinks a bit older, more like a '96 barolo perhaps. A touch of truffle oil brings out the hidden sweetness and complexity. Better when accompanied with a fatty side dish. Good.

  • outstanding. nicely balanced, none of the edge some of the Barolo's have. Good long finish. Peaks after about 30 minutes - not sure I'd decant it, but it benefits from a little air. Very good value

  • Medium depth - garnet to brick colour. Aromatic and youthful, with raspberries and sweet red fruit on the nose. Acidic in the mouth with fruit and currant. A nice wine, somewhat lack of structure, but soft and delicious.
