Gevrey: Combottes 1er Cru and Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru (Chicago + Zoom): A somewhat polarizing wine for the group. Definitely on the ripe side with very good concentration. Toasty but the fruit carries the oak reasonably well. Just enough restraint so as not to be roasted, but it's close, and that makes this a not-so-subtle wine.

Cellar age is bringing out more Gevrey character in this wine - roasted game and woodsy spice - but the oak is not helping this age into a particularly elegant mid-aged Gevrey 1er. Good+ now, but best to enjoy over the next few years.

Cork slightly depressed, mostly soaked through. Mature black and red cherry aromas with plenty of new oak and faint leather. Similar flavors came across as very mature to start, then slightly freshened up for an hour or two. Overall a good glass of Pinot Noir, even if not particularly Gevrey.

Lots of red and black cherry throughout, starting to mature, perhaps showing slightly older than I'd expect from a top 2002 1er, but still age appropriate. Best when initially opened and poured, this showed well for almost three hours, but the final taste was getting tired.

Gevrey-Chambertin Neighbors: Combottes 1er Cru and Latricières-Chambertin Grand Cru (Chicagoland IL): Rich, ripe and fairly powerful, but a bit too oaky. Others enjoyed it less.
