Clearly inferior to the 1990 drank a week ago (I will be testing the 1989 shortly). The exciting dark cherry fruit and the spices of the 1990 is missing here. Nose of egg whites and menthol. Fairly thin palate of strawberry, licorice, some spice, sand and bay leaf. 20 second finish. Do not get me wrong: I think 1988 is a vastly under-rated year. But Lagrange (Pomerol) was still weather-dependent for their quality in the 1980s-1990s, even under the Moeuix management then.
