At a wine bar. Popped and poured, and gulped down within one hour. Just humming at this point, and great on both the nose and palate. Well kept bottle to be sure, but 1982 continues to show in its wonderful long-lived wines.

Last time trying this was 3 yrs ago and wasn't a huge fan. This time, again perhaps bottle variation at play, was quite nice. Definitely on the decline, but still classic.

Notes of tobacco and pencil lead upon opening. Beautifully complex after about 30 to 60 min. Slight dried cherry, blackberry with pronounced coffee, leather and graphite. Medium bodied, still juicy and fresh with pleasurable acidity. Resolved tannins and with incredible persistence. Drinking beautifully

Paul D's Graves Greats (Piccolino, Exchange Square, London): On first pour there is something odd about the nose, suggestive of low level cork taint. Mercifully after 10 mins in the glass this largely blows off and the wine is enjoyable. There is something a little minty to the nose in addition to very Graves tobacco characteristics. Lovely savouriness to it. There are some notes of grated milk chocolate to the nose too. A treat.

Glorious Graves at Piccolino (Piccolino, Exchange Square, London): Deep garnet. Intense cigar box nose, blackcurrant fruit, spice. Medium bodied, quite rich dark fruit, cigar box, soil, soft tannins, fresh acidity, fans out into a long finish. Excellent, drinking beautifully.
