Blind Pinot tasting (Bellevue, WA): (Group's #3 (my #3)) – 1 first place vote, 2 second place votes, 4 third place votes – The nose was largely unrevealing with only red fruit aromas and maybe a perfume-like note. The palate had raspberry, leather and earth flavors. This wine was definitely older than the first wine in this flight, but I thought it was older than an 02. It was in a good place to drink, and had a medium-long finish. After this first flight was over we ate salmon with miso paste, falafel rice, mozzarellla balls, grape tomatoes, and a blend of five different mushrooms. This wine seemed to really open up while we were eating and even gained some complexity. This wine was much more enjoyable with the food than it had been on its own.

Decanted 1 hour. Deep, intense garnet-red color. Shy nose for an '02. With time brooding aromas of damp earth, cherries, and beets emerged. Indeed this is the earthiest Oregon pinot I've had in a long time. Complete palate with good balance of acidity and tannin. Typical pinot noir flavors of raspberries and plums are buttressed by a nice oakiness (but the oak is well integrated). Moderate finish. Nice wine that I think is currently in a dumb phase.

Pebble Beach Food and Wine; 3/27/2008-3/30/2008 (Pebble Beach Resort, CA): Crisp fruity nose with some floral highlights. Round palate with subtle mineral oak and touch of nuts, but forward notes of raspberry and cherry. Mid palate almost a bit sour and hallow. Medium finish.

Cherry, spice, pepper, big nose. Very pure on a somewhat light finish.
