  • My guy @rieslingfans and i have been planning to open the same 375ml on the same night for a while now, and today was the day!  Honestly, i could probably sum this wine up with 3 words.  Flat out delicious! Pristine cork and literally black as night in the glass with zero signs of bricking/age.  It smells sweet on the nose and it definitley is on the palate as well, with candied plums and black cherries.....but it has a tremendous amount of acidity to combat the heavy fruit which makes the wine very easy to drink.  That said, a little still goes a long way, and I'll be saving at least half of the 1/2 bottle for tomorrow.  A fun and tasty wine that I'm glad to have another bottle of, as ill probably hold it for at least 10 years to see where it goes.

  • Opened an hour prior to serving, but not decanted, as there was too much gunk all over the upper third of the bottle. Poured through a very fine mesh filter, which caught most of the stuff.

Aromatically this feels more like Port, with the deep, brooding plum and black cherry fruit that veers towards kirsch. The mouthfeel is silky, and a bit unctuous. There are still tannins, but they only come in at the very end, and are largely submerged by the density of fruit. The flavors merge berry compote and raisin. Not the most complex wine, but it has a visceral appeal.

  • A very special wine. My wine mentor got very excited about receiving this case of wine to his store. He says give me $10. He gives me this bottle. He says, loose it in your cellar. I opened it for my wife's birthday. The cork crumbled.

Color. Inky black. Like the day it was made.

Nose. Blackberry compote. Blueberry syrup. It smells like port. Like a high quality vintage port.

Palate. Thick and rich. Unctuous. Unlike anything I have ever had. Rich fruit. Acidity is there. Tannins are so fine grained.

I can't imagine this wine being any better or made better by anyone else.

  • Cigar wrapper, chocolate covered blueberries, cherry cordial, dried mint? Seems to be drying out just slightly compared to 10 years ago. Reading through my notes on this over the years it's a remarkably consistent and enjoyable wine. A happy marriage of Port and Recioto without all the alcohol but long on charm.

  • I see that I tasted this wine last almost exactly 10 years ago. It is still spectacular.
