CellarTracker tasting notes are all over the place. I'm obviously joining this party really late. The good news after 15 years: while the wine isn't anything special, it's also perfectly nice. Cherries, nothing aggressive. Markedly improved after an hour in the decanter. Ate with grilled chicken and burrata.

The first time I had this wine was in 2008, at the Falltacular. It had just been released, and when I tasted it, I thought it was earthy and muted — okay, but not really my cup of tea. The second time I tried this wine was in 2015, and I liked it even less than the first time. Well this is my third bottle, and what do you know, I'm actually enjoying it. Maybe it's because I'm drinking it out of a Zalto, but this wine has really come around. Floral perfume with notes of framboise, strawberries, red plum, and some baking spices — a bit of an earthy funk too, but that blows off with aggressive swirling. The palate is still a bit muted and thin, and the acidity is a bit sharp, but there's a restraint to the wine that does the Shea Vineyard proud. It's light, easy to drink, and quite pleasant. Very happy that I held onto it this long.

I really like Brian Loring, and I frequently enjoy his wines, but I was not a fan of this one. The earthy fruit just seemed really tired and washed out. I thought that maybe it was due to its age, but then I came across my first review of this wine. Even then, back in 2008, my note indicates that the fruit was "muted." So maybe 2006 was not a good year for Shea fruit.
