It's either flawed or way over the hill. The color was dark brown. Sherry nose. It still contained acidity and light tannins. However, no fruits. 4-hour decant got rid some of the sherry notes but it's still no fruits nor structure.

Barolo 96-04 Theme lunch at Nicolas. Tasted semi-blind. Appearance is clear, medium intensity, ruby colour with wide garnet rim. Legs. Nose is clean medium+ intensity, with aromas of nutty oak, red plums, ripe red cherries, fragrant earth. Developing. On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol (14%), fine high tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of sweet red plums, ripe red cherries, earth, nutty oak. Long finish. Very good quality. Modern styled nicely oaky Barolo in a ripe vintage. Overall feels balanced and ready, and could develop a bit more but perhaps the oak may never fully integrate/dissipate in. Still jazzy and sweetish after 72 hrs of air.

Considering the vintage, this was quite nice. Dark fruits and a bit of raisin were notable but not out of balance. Fully mature and ready to drink. Probably not going to stick around for too much longer, as it wasn't the best year.
