Very dark, right to the rim, looking younger than its five years. Beautiful nose of dark cherry, plum and spice. On the palate there is a thick, viscous mouthfeel with dusty tannins. Coffee, spicecak, mocha and dark cherries come through almost with a blast. This is a cab lovers merlot. It is a very big wine, but it is in proportion. Has almost a Trotanoy-like masculinity to it. This is the best Woodward Canyon merlot I've tasted since the 98. This is just begining to be ready to drink but I think time will only improve its score. I could easily see this wine going strong at age 15.
Decanted for 1 hour; dark garnet, medium bodied wine; there's a lot of dark fruit on the nose - a beautiful bouquet; blackberry, plum, some dark chocolate on the palate - somewhat obscured by slightly drying tannins; nice finish. Overall a decent Washington Merlot - IMO once the tannins resolve this will be a few points higher - I'm going to give my other bottles at least a year rest.
