  • Mushroom, herbs, pineapple, kumquat and orange marmalade. Good length with lively acidity. The wine has the right amount of mix between primary and secondary character. A great example of how good old Martray can be. 92-93

  • An initial mustiness, slightly toasty backnose, with a comforting and energetic finish for its age.

  • My last bottle from this batch, this wine had a gold center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose displayed lemons, marzipan, dried fruit, and soil.

In the mouth this wine was ripe and viscous with a nice mouth-feel. The acidity and length were good but not mind blowing. It seemed to lack a bit of grip compared to the other bottle tasted recently. Then, I realized I had not given it enough air and, sure enough, the acidic grip built up after hour 3 and balanced the wine out. While very good, it doesn't seem likely to provide competition for the '83 and '86.

A nice wine at its peak.

  • From an excellent looking bottle, this wine had a brilliant gold center and clear rims. The medium intensity nose displayed lemon, lime, white stone, and a hint of hazelnut.

In the mouth this was medium bodied with crisp lemon & stone flavors. While not particularly think or rich, this wine was ripe and had a nice glycerol feel. However, all that was overwhelmed by the brisk, lemony acidity.

This is classic Bonneau, light and crisp and it lasts forever in the bottle. While I would say this wine is bit past its peak, it probably won't taste much different 5 years from now. If the bottle has nice color, don't hesitate to give it 2+ hours of air.
