ESTG Year-End Tasting (Newcastle, WA): Wow the nose! Tobacco and cocoa! Insanely pale in color, almost iced tea, but it has tons of life. Really typical flavors.
Tasted at “A Winemaker’s Cellar” auction held by Zachy’s at Manhatta restaurant NYC - Friday 10th November 2023. From 750ml bottle opened from Mr Hut’s collection and kindly shared. What can one say? This was a regal wine that seemed completely at ease with itself - it was, of course, classic old Bordeaux but a simply fantastic lingering finish with sweet and complex undertones - my pitiful description does this beautiful old bottle no justice. Bravo.

Magnificent wine. Rose petals and strawberry flavors with exotic spices. Cedar and tobacco. Drank beside the 55 Petrus and it was clearly the better wine. In retrospect it is not a great a wine last the 53 Lafite I had last summer and I probably under rated that wine. Everything you are looking for in great old Bordeaux!

Medium-bodied, and focused on its tobacco, cigar box, cedar chest, forest leaf, spice, leafy herb, red currant, and bright cherry nose. The wine is elegant, refined, and regal on the palate. There is a light touch to the soft, sweet, red fruits along with hints of tobacco leaf, spice, and cedar in the finish.

Smoky but lifted, inky hawthorn, berries, woody, cedar, floral. Meaty and very clean with impressive length and elegance. 93-94
