A couple Pinots, A bunch of Spatlese, and QdC and a Port walked into a tasting: The group liked this more than I, in fact it was the groups WOTN. Deep golden in color. The nose has orange blossoms with minerals and wet stones. On the palate, this is viscous, slightly cloying with lots of citrus flavors. I thought this might be an 03. My first time trying this wine in any vintage. I liked it, but it was much sweeter than I expected.
Unexpectedly good. Drank with Elsa, Rebecca and Vincent over his seafood paella - absolutely lovely pairing. I really enjoyed this bottle. Golden yellow colour - a bit deeper than I would have expected for a 2006. Very rich almost heady on the nose, musk, apricots, peaches and dried flowers lent a perfumy note to tropical underpinnings, while a touch of mineral gave a nod to the wine's origins. Otherwise, it was so exuberant and rich that I might have thought Rheinghau or Reinhessen. There was just the smallest touch of petrol to the smell, but that was picked up on the palate, where rubber and petroleum notes eased the wine into the attack, followed by the ripest apples, more flowers, apricot and tons of peach moving into a musky finish. Again, there were tropical underpinnings, which really showed when the wine warmed up to a more suitable temperature - I got pineapple, ripe lemons and guava. Pretty good complexity, just a touch of alcohol at the extremities I thought, but still really nice balance with good, integrated acidity giving the wine shape. Very resolved and integrated feel as well. Very nice indeed.
