Community Tasting Notes (77) Avg Score: 93.4 points

  • Decanted 2.5 hours (not enouth), after 3+ hours it was much better. Still pretty young, but allready a pleasure to drink. Very good! 94-95 pts.

  • Deep ruby, with some lightening to the color, but it's fairly dark for 16 years of age. On the nose, oak, smoke, eucalyptus, blackberry, plum, tobacco and a hint of truffle, that is trying to poke through, but just cannot get there. Very concentrated, fresh, young, rich and loaded with ripe, juicy, blackberries and a hint of dark chocolate in the soft, opulent, textural finish. This is still quite young, lush and vibrant. I'd wait 4-5 years before popping another bottle.

The wine was decanted about 90 minutes when I wrote this note. I upgraded the score with 2.5 hours of air, which added a really silky feel to the wine. It will be interesting to see how this progresses tonight. If the oak fades into the wine, and that could take a while, this will deserve a much higher score as there is a lot of obvious quality in this wine.

  • Consistent with the bottle of 3 yrs ago, excellent. Ageing very slowly this, with some fringe signs of additional secondary development; largely on par with the prior bottle and I don't foresee any real (i.e. interesting) developments for at least 7-8 years. Delicious now, superb later. If only I could age as gracefully as this no doubt will. Sigh. highly recommended

Double-decanted at 8am, served non-blind at 7pm and allowed to slow-ox for 90 minutes prior to service.

  • Time to Taste 2000 Bordeaux (R&D's): Opens with aromas of perfumed florals- lavender and violets, along with tobacco, cassis and plum. Medium tannins. Flavors of black fruit and cassis, violets and earth with a long minute+ finish. Very perfumed and elegant, with herbal undertones. Adds red fruit qualities as it opens further in the glass. Hints of iodine emerge after another 30 minutes in the glass. 96+ pts.

As soon as I picked up the iodine I knew it was one of the Graves, and as open as it was, I assumed it was the Pape Clément.

    My #3, Domino's #3
    Group #1, 38 pts

  • From half bottle. PnP. Out of a half bottle, I was expecting more development, but this was still primary. It had a coffee, tannic finish which took down the score for me. Still the complexity was there.

(Pape Clement) Awesome nose. Oaky buy has enough fruit and nuance to counteract the oak. Exotic mushrooms, mint, smoke, black fruits, wet earth, green peppercorn. Really multidimensional. Flavors of red fruits & cocoa on the palate. Ripe and juicy with a stony finish. Gobs and gobs of fruit with no shortage of tannin.
