Similar profile on the palate but noteworthy for the smooth mouthfeel and intensity, recognisably old-vine driven. Use of oak is wonderfully judged here, with the wood perfectly integrated but noticeable for its effect. Lovely wine, very Mazis, and drinking perfectly now (accompanied roast goose brilliantly). ****1/2

  Another Saturday at Knightsbridge - mostly blind (Northbrook, IL): Tasted double blind. Oak spice with mature red fruit aromas and mushroom. Hints of sauvage on palate with less density than I'd expect from Grand Cru. I think there was a real drying element here that some thought was "green" but i found to be the effect of a bit too much new oak for the level of underlying fruit here.

  Deep limpid ruby. The nose is solid and sweet, floral and earthy, with black hedgerow fruits and a touch of gaminess. The mouth entry is soft and inviting, with succulent black fruits and gradually unfurling spiciness and acidity. The mid-palate is full and creamy and perfectly balanced, leading to a very long meaty finish, lifted by a touch of spice. A very solid and very fine wine, this was decanted two hours in advance and didn't open up significantly during drinking. One to drink up over the next five years or so.
