Dark ruby centre, red rim. Surprisingly little nose. Smooth, savoury, tannic mouthful. Lingering finish - can’t catch the flavour, not quite marmite but something savoury and stony. Frustrating to be unable to describe it, Lean and enjoyable.

I was a bit sceptical about this. A notoriously bad vintage at 13 years. But it’s surprisingly good. Light obviously but plenty of fresh red fruit. Cranberries perhaps. And I nice fragrance with some vanilla oak. It almost tastes like burgundy. Very drinkable with leftover roast beast. Someone did a great job sorting fruit that year. It is fading a bit so would recommend drinking up.

Black currant, graphite, cedar, slightly herbacious. Some development. Shows rather well now, given the vintage, lacking some power in the mid-palate, but rather enticing on the nose. A bit drying and short finish, but still I find it a pleasant surprise. Can't see much need to keep this one for much longer, worked very well with game.

Tasted at the Three Borders Wine Group annual dinner, Hampshire, UK. Served to accompany main course. Opened 90 minutes before drinking. This Margaux was very popular with the whole group and seemed to be at perfect maturity now. Deep purple colour, slight cloudiness. Orangey nose, some earthiness. Smooth palate, well balanced, rich and and quite long. Drink now, this is not a vintage to keep for the long term.

Black centre, red rim, but losing it's brilliance. Lean, mineral, savoury. Classic d'Angludet. No sign of thinning on the finish, but can't see this improving. On a steady plateau of excellence.
