  • Same as my CT notes from 7/30/2015. Drinking nicely with a little air. No decant necessary. Drink now.

  • We opened and poured through a vintorio. Dark fruit on the nose, the palate was blackberry and ripe plums with hints of vanilla and cedar. A long smooth finish.

  • Really delicious, paired with short ribs. Great perfume and acidity. Last glass after the food was gone, was a little soft. As always, not in a blockbuster style, rather showing restraint and elegance while still capturing delicious ripe NAPA fruit.

  • A graceful, feminine, medium-bodied style, with notes of red currant, cedar, and light plum. On more of the red fruit side of the cabernet profile; almost pinot-like (which is a bit visually confusing because the wine is a deeper purple color than the taste ultimately leads on to). No doubt that this wine will evolve some over time, but to what degree it will gain multidimensional complexities by which to significantly improve the overall experience remains to be seen. This is not a "big" cabernet by any stretch.

Ric Forman does pick his grapes earlier than some of the other "heavy hitter" cabernet producers in Napa, so this house style is bound to be more restrained and subtle by comparison. I found this wine lacking a bit when next to Forman's 2010 Cabernet, which showed much more depth, with additional notes of asphalt, coffee, and fresh soil.

  • I went to the cellar and grabbed this bottle without a lot of thought. We PnP this wine during dinner after a 2005 Quintessa. This wine was stellar. Deep dark red tone. Wonderfully deep nose with essence of cassis, blackberries, toast and peppers. The balance of this wine was terrific with subtle tannins and just enough acidity to help with the mouthfeel and finish. And what a terrifically long finish with layers of red ripe figs, jam, black currant, toast and a hint of mint. I will definitely decant the other Forman bottles in my cellar when it's time. This wine should peak in 3-5 years.
