Garnet robe, not quite opaque with a thin brick robe; very pencil lead/cedar-dominated nose, spicebox, dark fruits - with air a little bit of funk, classic Medoc. Medium bodied, tannic, the acidity and alcohol are somewhat out of check. Similar notes on the palate but here the spice and cigar notes are most prominent. All in all, very pleasant nose but the palate fails a bit (so typical of the '97 Medocs).
I think I opened it too early in its life. While it was decanted for over 2 hours, it didn't compare to some older and younger Boureaux's we were drining with a large group. It did have the basics right, but never opened up and styed quite tannic and tight.
