Decanted for 2 hours and drank an hour later. Smooth and long...yes a little heavy on the oak, but medium to long finish. Drinking well with a decant. Branaire 2000 showed promise, but was drinking much tighter and closed this night.
Had top class spicy, aromatic and complex aromas of oaky, cedary, vanillary bluberries, plums, flowers, cassis and leather. Its medium to full bodied eliptical and elegant palate has lovely concentration, a very oaky, plump and fruity deliniated middle and ends long, fresh and rolling. Will improve.
Nice expressive aromas of rich cassis fruits, plum, black berries, cigar box, pencil shavings, black ink and hints of menthol and toasted oak. Robust and smooth entry, along with rich cassis fruits, tobacco, hints of menthol and vanilla, still pretty tight. Ripe fruits flavours with good acidity. Grippy tannins, medium+ finish.

(Lagrange) Stunning nose of cocoa, leather, mint, bbq sauce, menthol, asian spice. Very aromatically precise. Almost like a solid in the mouth. Great density and weight but still retains elegance. It was amazing how big how many of the 2000's were but what was more amazing was how much elegance they had. They all punched you in the face, but you saw it coming in very slow motion. Remarkable - - this vintage.
(Chateau Lagrange St Julien) Fat and rich on the nose, with dense black cherry fruit and oak, with a burnt, toasty edge - perhaps even a touch of roasting to the flavour profile. The palate is unsurprisingly still packed with tannin and very backward at this stage it its development. Nevertheless there is a hint of fat, rich opulence here and buttery fruit. Destined for excellence. Needs a decade in the cellar.
