Fruity aromas of sweet cherries and a hint of menthol. Quite powerful, but this bottle was not great, and it seems to have lost some of the primary fruit. Tannins and acidity dominate.

Five years since my last bottle. This shows a lot of cherry-menthol on the palate, with notes of aged balsamic. The palate is still rather powerful, with waves of fruit and velvety tannins that have softened, but still this is full-on, masculine, powerful. Mellows a bit by the second night, more focused, still fruit-forward with cherry-menthol, but now the mouthfeel is more silky. Like five years ago, this is dark, more dark cherry than light red berries. I like the style, there's a lot of material to chew on here. Drinks well now, but plenty of tannin and acidity and energy to go further.

The bouquet is still pretty faint and dominated by alcohol, but the palate is fresh and lively, precise and intense, not terribly complex but delicious, and the finish is long. Most of the tannin has integrated, and the tannin and acidity that remain both balance the intense fruit and promise a long future. Nebbiolo simply tastes different, and in this one I picked up some cherries and a distant haunting trace of wax.

July 2015. Put in Barolo decanter. After 30 minutes, pretty primary, alcholic and tannic, potentially Burgundian, long finish. After 90 minutes, bouquet just starting to develop, much smoother, silkier in the front of the mouth but still hard, intense, and tannic in the mid-palate and back of the mouth. After 180 minutes, pretty much the same. After 24 hours, much more pleasant, some pruniness starting to develop in the bouquet, smoother all the way to the back of the palate, great freshness, quite intense.

Classic Barolo with aromas of tar and roses. Did not open up as expected and appeared as tart and restrained for several hours after opening.
