Just a beautiful, balanced wine drinking so well right now. Benefited from a short decant. As soon as I opened the bottle, the aromas wafted out. Leather, violets, spice notes, settled tannins. Wish I had more.

Small dinner with large pours (Ariana II): Cloudy, garnet colour. Lovely nose, spice cupboard on a warm day. Nice structure - more acidity than I usually experience with Musar. Definite VA on the nose and palate but definitely within the civilised band for this house.

BWC Pot Pourri at Ariana II (Ariana 2, Kilburn, London): Double decanted 4 hours before broaching. Lovely clean nose with bright red fruits, some Moroccan bazaar spice and some hints of pickled chestnut. Palate rich and long with more of the same and a little grated chocolate.

The Wine Society, UK, tasting of Chateau Musar. Wines introduced by owners Gaston and Mark Hochar. Venue: London.
Medium plum, slightly cloudy at the edges. Lovely aroma of mature plum fruit and earthiness, I could just inhale for hours! This is sumptuous! The palate is fully mature, but will surely be good for another 20 years. Dry, but with a hint of sweetness which lingers beautifully in the mouth. Vanilla, licquorice. Excellent!

This is showing surprisingly well. A very "sensible" bottle of Musar, this, showing very little of the caricature aspects (VA/Brett, etc). Started off quite Grenache-like (yes, I know there's none in there!) before drifting off in a more sensuous, Cinsault direction on day 2. Super!
