  • PnP, served non blind. At peak. I'm enjoying a nice winning streak with Barbera this year, and this wine put another mark in the W column. Color and cork suggest the wine is in top form, primary aromas at first, with earth, cherry, a whiff of smoke and tree bark on first pour. We had an opportunity to take some time with this over a leisurely (and amazing) dinner of eggplant parmigiana. It's a good thing, too, as this added volumes of complexity, interest and beauty as the dinner progressed. Nearly full-bodied by the last glass, but with a substantial (and very fresh) under pinning of lively acids neatly counter-balanced by firm, focused tannins and deliciously pure fruit. Sadly, my last one. very highly recommended, 14,0% abv, thru 2016

  • Delightful, medium weight, very solid wine. A great mix of contrasting flavors, cedar, earth, tart berries, sweet fruit, wet wool, turpentine and pepper. Definitely better with food, in fact great with food. Still, even on its own, it's solid on its feet, balanced but I can understand if this is somewhat challenging to some palates; but very satisfying. Great VPR. Another few years would be interesting if it can stay together.

  • PnP consumed over 2 nights, served at cellar temp. Dark ruby core, very faint browning at the rim. Opens with plenty of freshly turned earth, some SO2, and within a minute or so, the fruit begins to emerge, slowly. Night #2 was actually more expressive, but each were just as interesting, even if for different reasons. Aromas of red berries, cinnamon stick, plum, red floral, cherry, salvia, and sweet oak. Medium bodied with above-average acidity (+1) and balance (+1). I have one left that I will be sure to drink in the next 2-3 years. 14,0% abv, recommended. From Vinchio, one of the highest vineyards along le strade del vino.

  • Decanted 1 hr. Ruby core with ripe cherry, plum, spice and red floral aromatics; beautifully perfumed. Medium bodied with firm tannins and lively acidity. Everything is in the proper proportion. Best enjoyed with a meal. 14,0% abv, approx $22, drink thru 2015.

  • Deep crimson red, a little funk on the nose with underlying notes of sage, cherry, spice and hints of vanilla, fantastic spicy attack with solid structure, loads of acid and a beaming cherry streak, thins on the mid-palate but finishes with ripe tannins, a food wine if I've ever tasted one
